London – know before you go:
Money –
- ·You’ll probably know by know that even though the UK is part of the European Union they have not yet adopted the Euro as their unit of currency. It’s not much good here so make sure you change up some Sterling (GBP).
- ·There are ATMs all over the shop in London and will take all bankcards from any reputable bank, whilst you debit and credit cards are good in the vast majority of places.
- ·For currency exchange most of the banks and a few of the building societies offer this service as well as the bureau de changes, so shop around if you have the time.
Business Hours –
·A lot of the shops in the city are open between the usual times of 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Saturdays, though many of the larger shops will stay open till 7pm during the week and still open on Sundays. You’ll also find that a good few of the smaller shops will still open for shortened hours on Sundays in Central London.
Telephones –
·There’s still the odd red phone box knocking around touristy spots such as Westminster, but glass cubicles are now the standard fare and will accept coins, credit or debit cards or phone cards which you can get from most corner shops and all post offices.
Emergencies -
·Dial 999 for police, fire brigade or ambulance in cases of emergency.
When’s a good time to go –
·London fizzes with atmosphere all year round, but if you time it right and catch some good weather in the summer months you’ll find the city to be very enjoyable and it takes on a delightful hue on those sultry evenings.
