Trafalgar Square

London
Right in the centre of the city, this is the ideal spot to start at, if you fancy investigating London on foot. Named after the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, here you’ll find Nelson’s Column, a large spear shaped monument soaring some 140 feet into the sky that’s said to be the central point of the city. There’s a fountain area here as well where you can relax and feed the pigeons, and if you head over to the north end of the square you’ll find the National Gallery, home to some 2100 masterpieces, including the works of Michelangelo, Raphael, Da Vinci and Van Gogh.
